Villagers end protest after authorities assure action
Lakhimpur Kheri, March 27 -- Villagers, who had been protesting since Wednesday night following tragic killing of a seven-year-old girl Simran in a leopard attack, on Thursday agreed to call off their agitation and to send the body for a post-mortem examination after the Dudhwa buffer zone authorities gave an assurance to the family to capture the leopard within a week, besides providing monetary compensation and a job to next of kin.
Simran, a resident of Futha farm in Sindhauna village under Dudhwa buffer zone, was killed on Wednesday night when a leopard barged into their farm house and dragged away the girl to a field.
Her family members and other villagers chased the leopard in a bid to rescue the girl but in vain. They later recovered her body from a wheat field, about 500 metres away from the farm house.
The incident triggered much resentment and panic among the family members and other locals who started a protest dharna near the farm house on Wednesday night.
They demanded immediate capture of the errant animal, a job to a member of aggrieved family, compensation and solar fencing close to the reserved forest area to prevent movements of wild animals into human habitations....
