PRAYAGRAJ, June 20 -- Tension prevailed in the Manjhanpur area of Kaushambi district on Friday morning following a protest over the the death of a 55-year-old man who was killed in a collision with a JCB machine the previous day. Agitated family members and local residents placed the victim's body on the Sarai Akil-Kanaili road and staged a blockade, disrupting traffic for about 90 minutes and causing significant inconvenience to commuters. The deceased, Suman Vishwakarma, a resident of Kanaili village in Sarai Akil, worked as a chaat vendor. He had been living with his family in Sarai Akil town for the last 15 years. According to police, Vishwakarma had visited his native village on Thursday to invite relatives for his daughters' forthcoming engagement and wedding ceremonies. While returning, he was allegedly struck by a JCB machine near the Bakodha turning at around 8 am. He suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family. On Friday morning, relatives and villagers placed the body on the Sarai Akil-Kanaili road and staged a blockade, demanding compensation for the bereaved family. The blockade brought traffic to a standstill, prompting police intervention. Station house officer (SHO) Sher Singh Verma reached the spot and held talks with the protesters. He assured them that the necessary procedures would be completed to help the family secure compensation. He also informed them that a case had been registered and that the JCB machine involved in the accident, along with its driver, had been taken into custody. Following the assurance, the protesters called off the blockade after about 90 minutes, allowing traffic movement to return to normal. The SHO said the deceased was later laid to rest following the performance of his last rites....
