Victim's kin under pressure to change statement: Akhilesh
LUCKNOW, April 27 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday alleged that the state government was exerting pressure on the family of the Ghazipur girl, whose body was recovered from the Ganga on April 15, to change its statement.
"Uttar Pradesh has never witnessed such a weak Chief Minister--one who exerts pressure on poor, helpless victims of heinous atrocities to force them to alter their statements," Yadav alleged in a statement.
"Why did it take so long to file an FIR? Why were the statements changed? Why is the victim's family being further harassed? Who prevented action against the supremacists who even pelted stones at the police? Why was the post-mortem questioned?" he asked.
"Regardless of what the post-mortem report may state, every household in (Karanda Kataria) village is fully aware of the ground reality. Everyone knows what happened and what is being claimed," the SP chief claimed. "This has sparked deep anger and outrage within the 'PDA' (Pichde, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) community," Yadav said. He remarked that the murder of the 'daughter of Ghazipur' is a tragic repetition of the murder of the 'daughter of Hathras'.
"Both incidents share a common thread: the victims' families belonged to the 'PDA' community, while the perpetrators belonged to the dominant castes," Yadav claimed....
