Meerut, July 22 -- Police have arrested the main accused in the murder of Israr Khan following an early morning encounter in Bareilly's Shergarh police station area on Tuesday. The accused, Guddu alias Taufiq, who is also the real brother of the deceased and a known history-sheeter, sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange of fire with police, said officials. A police constable was also injured in the operation. The encounter took place near the Kichha River bridge close to Kasbapur village in the Shergarh police station jurisdiction. According to police, Guddu alias Taufiq had been on the run since the murder of his brother, Israr Khan, in Khajua Jagir village on July 17. Multiple police teams had been deployed to track him down after the incident. Circle officer (CO) Baheri Arun Kumar Singh said the murder stemmed from a dispute over a house in Khajua Jagir village. Guddu alias Taufiq was identified as the prime accused in the case and had absconded immediately after the killing, prompting an intensive manhunt. Police said that during the operation early Tuesday, the accused allegedly opened fire while attempting to evade arrest.
