Varanasi to host BRICS Culture Working Group meeting on June 4-5
VARANASI, May 22 -- The BRICS Culture Working Group meeting, under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability," will be held in Varanasi on June 4 and 5. Divisional Commissioner S Rajalingam and Director, Union Ministry of Culture Priyanka Chandra on Thursday reviewed preparations for hosting and organising the upcoming meeting under the aegis of the BRICS Summit.
BRICS is an intergovernmental organisation comprising member nations including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Divisional commissioner said, "The meeting is scheduled to be held at a hotel in Varanasi on June 4 and 5, 2026. Officials have been instructed to ensure that all arrangements for the event are carried out in a time-bound and systematic manner to effectively showcase Varanasi's rich cultural heritage and traditions of hospitality." He said that the cultural programmes being organised as part of the BRICS Summit would offer a unique opportunity to present the rich cultural identity of Kashi on the global stage.
Officials from various departments discussed the programme framework, guest reception, cultural performances, security, traffic management, and other logistical arrangements during the meeting. Officials from the tourism, culture, municipal corporation, public works, and police departments shared updates on venue preparations, transportation, sanitation, lighting, and guest facilities.
The Divisional Commissioner directed all departments to coordinate closely and complete preparations within the stipulated timeframe.
District magistrate Satyendra Kumar, additional police commissioner Shivhari Meena, vice chairman of the development authority Purna Borah, municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal, ADM (Administration) Pankaj Kumar, ADM (City) Rajesh, ADM Protocol Vinay Kumar, ADM (FR) Sadanand Gupta, and SDM (Pindra) Pratibha Mishra, attended the meeting....
