Varanasi gears up for Chhath festival
VARANASI, Oct. 23 -- Varanasi is geared up for the Chhath festival to be celebrated on October 27 and October 28.
NDRF teams equipped with safety equipment, water ambulances, divers, and other rescue equipment will be deployed at the ghats, lakes and ponds, said deputy inspector general of NDRF, Manoj Kumar Sharma.
Sharma added that a total of approximately 7 teams will be deployed along the banks of the Ganga, Varanasi, BLW, and Chandauli. Each team comprises 30 trained NDRF personnel. All teams have been equipped with essential life-saving equipment such as rescue motor boats, water ambulances, life jackets, life buoys, divers, paramedical staff, oxygen cylinders, and other rescue materials.
Sharma said that our teams will remain fully alert on the banks of the Ganga in Varanasi. In addition to the Ganga River, teams have also been deployed at the Surya Sarovar at the Banaras Rail Locomotive Works (BLW).
Varanasi Nagar Nigam has accelerated the work to remove the silt from the ghats loaded with silt.
Four-day chhath pooja is set to begin from October 25. Thousands of devotees will gather at Ghats to offer prayers to the setting and rising sun....
