VARANASI, Sept. 26 -- With the tendering process for procuring Ayurvedic medicines completed, Rajakiya (Government) Ayurvedic College and Hospital in Varanasi is set to receive fresh supplies soon. College principal Prof DK Maurya said the administration had completed the tendering process for procuring the medicines and sent the proposal to the Uttar Pradesh Ayurvedic Directorate, Lucknow, for approval. Once approved, the college will receive around 50 additional Ayurvedic medicines. He said there was a misconception that all 210 Ayurvedic medicines approved by the Ministry of Ayush should be available in every college pharmacy. In reality, around 30 to 50 medicines from the approved list are stocked based on need. The medicines are procured season- and region-wise, according to requirements, the principal said. At present, around 30 Ayurvedic medicines are available at the college and being provided to patients as per their needs, he said. Principal and superintendent of Government Ayurveda College and Hospital, Varanasi, Prof DK Maurya said the college topped in OPD attendance, with 35,909 patients treated and provided free medicines over the past three months. A review of OPD services at state-run Ayurvedic colleges and hospitals for April, May and June of the 2026-27 fiscal year showed Government Ayurveda College and Hospital, Varanasi, recorded the highest footfall with 35,909 patients.
