LUCKNOW, Oct. 31 -- Top-seeded Vanshraj Jalota of Uttar Pradesh won the singles title at the Braj Mohan Lal Tiwari Memorial AITA Championship Series Under-18 Tennis Tournament, defeating third-seeded Aniruddh Kumar 6-4, 6-2 in Friday's final. Both players started aggressively, but Vanshraj showed greater control and consistency in the key moments. Aniruddh challenged him strongly in the opening set, yet Vanshraj kept his composure to take it 6-4, at the SDS Tennis Academy here. In the second set, Vanshraj's strong serving and attacking game limited Aniruddh's chances of a comeback. He closed out the match 6-2 to claim the championship. Refusing to let age become an obstacle, master swimmers from Lucknow once again demonstrated their talent and passion for the sport. Competing in the 2nd Asian Masters Swimming Championship, held in Bengaluru these swimmers brought glory to their city by securing a total of ten medals-one gold, two silver, and seven bronze. Along with these medalists, other senior swimmers who participated in the championship were also honored. In the championship, 74-year-old Prakash Awasthi won a gold medal in the 50-meter backstroke. A retired BSNL employee, Prakash is an international-level swimmer. Radheshyam Gupta (78) and Devendra Shukla (58) secured silver medals in the 200-meter backstroke. Suman Chaudhary (65) won three bronze medals-in the 50-meter backstroke, 50-meter breaststroke, and a relay event. Rakesh Shukla (71) earned two bronze medals, in the 200-meter backstroke and a relay. Nitin Varshney also won a bronze medal in a relay event, while Pushpa Mishra-a recipient of the Lakshman Award-secured a bronze medal in the 50-meter butterfly. A total of 17 athletes from Lucknow participated in the championship. In addition to the medalists, the participants included Vikas Awasthi, Dr. V.M. Khare, Dinesh Srivastava, Shyam Narayan Gupta, Seema Yadav, Sandeep Arora, Rakesh Sonkar, Anuradha Khanna, Prabhat Mishra, and Subodh Mishra....
