Mussoorie, Sept. 13 -- Overnight rainfall triggered a fresh landslide near the Chirbasa helipad on Kedarnath pedestrian route on Saturday, forcing authorities to temporarily halt the Kedarnath yatra and stop pilgrims at Sonprayag and Gaurikund, officials said. Sumit Bisht, assistant engineer, PWD Guptkashi, said over 16 workers were deployed to clear the affected stretch. "The path had been opened for pilgrims after the landslide on Friday, but overnight rain triggered another landslide at the same place, leading to accumulation of boulders and debris. The yatra was halted till noon on Saturday," he said. Pilgrims were stopped at Sonprayag and Gaurikund as a precautionary measure and were allowed to proceed towards Kedarnath shrine after the debris and boulders were removed. The Rudraprayag district administration and local police issued an advisory asking pilgrims to follow official instructions and avoid unnecessary movement until weather conditions improved and the route was declared safe. The state received 9.6 mm of rainfall against a normal of 8.5 mm. Chamoli recorded 12.2 mm against its normal of 3.8 mm, resulting in 221% excess rainfall. Tehri received 10.1 mm, 134% above normal, while Uttarkashi recorded 18.2 mm, 125% above normal. Rudraprayag received 18.8 mm against a normal of 10.7 mm, a 75% surplus, while Dehradun recorded 15.3 mm, 72% above its normal of 8.9 mm. In Uttarkashi, heavy rainfall in Saransh village of Mori tehsil flooded a local apple orchard and damaged a temporary storehouse. Nayab Tehsildar Mori visited the site to assess the situation, officials said. Several rivers remained close to their critical thresholds. At Dharchula, the Kali was recorded at 888.60 metres at 8 am, against a warning level of 889 metres and danger mark of 890 metres, with a receding trend. The Tons at Ichhari stood at 644.70 metres, above its warning level of 643.60 metres but below the danger mark of 644.75 metres. Over 70 roads were closed across the state due to landslides and boulder falls. Chamoli reported 14 blocked roads and Dehradun 12. In Pauri, 12 roads were reopened after debris clearance, leaving nine closed by Saturday evening. Nainital reported seven road blockages and Almora five. The IMD Dehradun centre has issued a yellow alert from September 13 to 15, forecasting heavy rainfall at isolated places in Bageshwar and Pithoragarh on Sunday. Isolated intense spells of rain have also been forecast in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. Meanwhile, a Bailey bridge at Kulagar in Dharchula area in Pithoragarh was washed away again following heavy rains and a landslide on Friday night, prompting police to caution residents against going near the Kali river due to the possibility of water accumulating behind the damaged structure. Dharchula sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Ashish Joshi said the bridge had been damaged following the landslide and the road connectivity to Gunji in the Vyas Valley and the Darma Valley had been disrupted. "Due to damage to the bridge at Kulagar, the road to Gunji in Vyas Valley and Darma Valley has been closed today," SDM Joshi said. He said he would discuss an alternative arrangement for transporting people and essential supplies to the high Himalayan valleys with Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials until a new bridge was installed....
