LUCKNOW, Oct. 23 -- Haryana survived a spirited Uttar Pradesh chase to win their Women's U19 T20 Trophy Elite quarter-final by 10 runs, at Lady Amritbai Daga College Ground, Nagpur, on Thursday. Haryana posted 177/3 in 20 overs before restricting Uttar Pradesh to 167/8, sealing a place in the semi-finals in a contest that stayed alive until the final ball. Haryana's innings was built on a superb opening stand between Tanishka Sharma and Deeya Yadav. Captain Tanishka anchored the innings with 78 off 63 balls, striking 11 fours and one six, while Deeya played the more explosive hand, smashing 83 from just 49 deliveries with 16 fours and seven sixes. Their 147-run partnership in 17.3 overs gave Haryana complete control and set a demanding target. Uttar Pradesh's bowlers fought back late as Bharati Singh was the most economical with 1/27, while Siddhi Mishra and Shubh Choudhary picked up a wicket apiece but the platform had already been laid. Uttar Pradesh began poorly, losing Shubh Choudhary for a second-ball duck and slipping to 32 for 2 in the fifth over. Riya Bhati's quick 28 from 20 balls briefly steadied the chase, but wickets continued to fall, leaving the side 75 for 5 at the halfway stage. Bharati Singh then kept Uttar Pradesh in the game with a composed 41 off 32 balls. When she fell at 101 for 6 in the 15th over, the required rate had climbed sharply, but Saanvi Bhatia revived hopes with a fearless 40 from 25 deliveries, hitting six fours and four sixes. Saanvi and Jyoti Baliyan added crucial late runs, taking Uttar Pradesh to 159 for 7 with two overs remaining. However, Haryana's bowlers held their nerve in the closing stages. Saanvi was dismissed in the 20th over, and although Jyoti struck a six in her brief 6, the required runs proved just beyond reach. Nitya Malik, Taniya Gujjar and Samaira Sehgal took two wickets each, while Tanishka Sharma chipped in with one. Their disciplined death bowling ensured Uttar Pradesh finished on 167 for 8, falling 10 runs short despite a much-improved second half of the chase. The difference was Haryana's explosive top order. Deeya Yadav's 83 and Tanishka's steady 78 produced a total that always kept Uttar Pradesh under pressure, even as the chase gained momentum late. For Uttar Pradesh, Bharati Singh's all-round effort-41 with the bat and 1 for 27 with the ball-and Saanvi Bhatia's late fireworks will offer encouragement. But the early collapse and Haryana's boundary-heavy powerplay ultimately proved decisive in a thrilling quarter-final. Uttar Pradesh's Aashi Shamsheri stormed into the fibnal of the girls under-18 of the Dewan Jagat Mohan Lal Memorial AITA National Series Ranking Tennis Tournament, at Allahabad Gymkhana Tennis Academy on Thursday. Aashi defeated statemate Aaira 6-1, 6-2 in straight sets. Now, she will play against Delhi's Dyuti Jain, who defeated Manusmriti Singh of Madhya Pradesh 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in a closely contested three-set match....
