New Delhi, July 26 -- Opposition parties plan to turn the heat on Union home minister Amit Shah for the use of pellet guns and the brutal thrashing of the students by the security forces, following the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, people familiar with the matter said. This could well mean that the second week of the monsoon session is as unproductive as the first. Opposition parties will meet on Monday to decide the scope of their participation in the Parliament proceedings. After Pradhan's resignation, a section of the Opposition is keen to corner the government over the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Mandir . But many to press the advantage by continuing to focus on paper leaks and the protest. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi told media at 10, Janpath on Saturday, "The first thing is that we hold Mr. Amit Shah directly responsible for the violence that has taken place against our students. He authorised the shooting of our students; he authorised the use of lethal weapons, pellet guns on our students. So, that, for us, is a fundamental issue. We will not accept our own forces shooting the future of India. So, that is going to be a major issue in Parliament." According to functionaries aware of the details, senior Opposition leaders discussed the developments and the agenda for the week ahead over phone on Saturday but it is not clear if Parliament will run smoothly from Monday. TMC's Rajya Sabha leader Derek O'Brien claimed that the Opposition might oppose the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, the tougher anti paper leak law the government wants to legislate.
