LUCKNOW, Aug. 18 -- The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has approached the state electricity regulator for approval to a power supply agreement signed with NTPC Limited for procurement of 1,530 MW of Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE), officials in the know of things said. The regulator, according to them, may give its nod on August 28 when it is scheduled to hear the petition having already admitted the same early this week. The petition, filed before the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC), pertains to the power supply agreement executed on April 11, 2025. The arrangement envisages supply of renewable power with assured round-the-clock availability and flexibility, addressing the reliability concerns often linked with solar and wind energy. "The UPPCL has sought the Commission's consent to adopt the tariff and approve the procurement, citing the need to meet the state's growing demand with cleaner sources of electricity," a UPPCL official said. The corporation in its petition also argued that FDRE would help balance the grid and reduce dependence on conventional fossil-fuel generation. UPERC, after admitting the petition has issued notices and will examine the agreement and related terms before taking a final call. "If cleared, this will mark one of the largest renewable procurement tie-ups for Uttar Pradesh, strengthening its transition toward sustainable energy while ensuring dependable supply to consumers," an official pointed out....
