LUCKNOW, July 6 -- Uttar Pradesh Hockey on Sunday announced its plan to conduct UP Hockey League in near future. The League will run separate competitions for men's and women's divisions and aims to provide match exposure, talent identification and commercial opportunities for players and teams across the state. The announcement was made during the Annual General Meeting of Uttar Pradesh Hockey, at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium under the chairmanship of its chief RP Singh. The meeting brought together district representatives, office-bearers and special invitees to discuss adoption of new governance norms and measures to boost hockey across the state. Andeshwar Pandey, secretary general of the Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association, and two-time Olympic bronze medallist Lalit Upadhyay attended as special guests. The proceedings of the previous AGM were formally ratified before the meeting moved to detailed consideration of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and the National Sports Governance Rules, 2026. On the occasion, the Uttar Pradesh Hockey unanimously resolved to formally adopt the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and the accompanying Rules, 2026. Affiliated district hockey associations were directed to adopt the new law at their respective levels and to carry out required amendments to bylaws and governance structures in compliance with the Act. The adoption is intended to strengthen transparency, accountability and professionalism across the sport's administration in the state. Delegates discussed suggestions received from all districts and approved several significant measures by consensus. A new recognition scheme will annually honour the district hockey association that demonstrates outstanding and exemplary performance in development, grassroots outreach and administration. Additionally, it was decided that all athletes who win medals at state and national championships will be felicitated at the next annual meeting. Strengthening compliance for inter-state and national competitions, the AGM resolved that participation in All-India events by players and teams will require a No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the State Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Hockey. The Executive Committee will request Hockey India to issue formal guidance endorsing this requirement. Reinforcing good governance, the meeting endorsed the principle of "One Person - One Association" to curb conflicts of interest and ensure clearer accountability in office-bearing positions. As part of efforts to support grassroots activity, the AGM approved a one-time financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to each affiliated district hockey association to help fund local programmes, coaching camps and events. UPH's secretary general, Rajnish Mishra presided over the meeting proceedings and welcomed delegates.
