UPESSC seeks guidance as SC upholds HC order on re-exam for 5 subjects
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 4 -- The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) recently sought government's guidance following the Supreme Court's verdict on the controversy surrounding the written examination to recruit 910 assistant professor posts in government-aided degree colleges.
The commission is awaiting clarity on whether to proceed with interviews in accordance with the court's directions or file a review petition, officials said.
On October 6, the Supreme Court refused to interfere with the Allahabad high court division bench's April 17, 2026, order and dismissed the special leave petitions challenging it.
Commission's PRO Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh said further action would be decided after receiving guidance from the government.
As per the court's directions, interviews for 28 of the 33 subjects are to be conducted on the basis of the original written examination held on April 16-17, 2025. For the remaining five subjects, interviews will be based on the re-examination conducted on April 18-19, 2026.
In its order, the high court had observed that the material available regarding the alleged question paper leak pertained to only five subjects - Urdu, Hindi, geography, sociology and zoology. Since it was not possible to distinguish between candidates affected and unaffected by the alleged leak in these subjects, the court had ordered a fresh examination for them.
For the remaining 28 subjects, no material linking the question papers to the alleged leak had emerged.
The court had, therefore, directed that the original examination held on April 16-17, 2025, be considered for the recruitment process.
However, despite the high court's order, the commission conducted a re-examination for all 33 subjects on April 18-19, 2026. It declared the results on June 29, shortlisting 3,155 candidates and announcing that their interviews would begin on July 21. The interview process, however, could not take off after some candidates approached the Supreme Court.
The state government had earlier decided to cancel the examination on January 7, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the recruitment process.
Following the Supreme Court's verdict, shortlisted candidates are now awaiting the interview schedule, with the process remaining stalled pending further directions....
