Lucknow, May 16 -- The Uttar Pradesh government is working towards ensuring zero loss of life and minimal damage to agricultural land during this year's monsoon. All measures, including the establishment of flood control rooms, cleaning of drains, protection of embankments, and the formation of flood protection committees, will prove to be a major relief during the upcoming monsoon. Integrated flood control rooms have been directed to be established in all 18 divisions of the state by May 31 so that they can be operational by June 1. These rooms will be operational 24 hours a day from June 15 to October 15 to monitor floods and affected areas. These rooms will ensure real-time monitoring of water levels and prompt action in case of disasters. According to the irrigation and water resources department, approximately 4,000 kilometers of embankments have been secured. Three hundred projects are underway to protect villages and agricultural land along rivers and streams from erosion. These will be completed by June 15. Anti-erosion work is being completed in sensitive and highly sensitive areas. Protective fences are also being strengthened using stone pitching and geo-bags on rivers. According to the department, special attention is being paid to drainage systems to address water-logging in urban and rural areas. By March, 2026, more than 16,000 kilometers of drains have been desilted. Cleaning of all remaining vulnerable areas will be completed before the onset of the monsoon season. This will ensure uninterrupted drainage during heavy rains, preventing crops and villages from being submerged. The department is also strengthening its preparations at the social level. "Flood Safety Committees" are being formed in various rural areas. These committees include junior engineers, village heads, accountants, and other local residents. They will be responsible for providing immediate information in case of floods and disasters and assisting in relief work....
