LUCKNOW, Oct. 20 -- Former India Under-19 captain Mohd Aaman struck a match-winning, unbeaten half-century as Uttar Pradesh defeated hosts Himachal Pradesh by one wicket in a nail-biting Elite Group D encounter of the Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy at Bilaspur on Sunday. The victory earned Uttar Pradesh their maiden win of the season and 11 points, including one for batting, four for bowling and six for the match. Uttarakhand leads the group with 12 points. Chasing a target of 301, Uttar Pradesh resumed at 111 for 2 on the final day and reached the target in 99.2 overs. Aaman displayed grit and determination with an unbeaten 70 off 125 balls, hitting six boundaries and two sixes. Ankur Sharma remained not out on one, helping the team cross the line after a tense finish. UP began the day needing 191 more runs, but wickets fell at regular intervals. In-form Rituraj Sharma was dismissed for 33 after adding just 18 runs to his overnight score. Skipper Sameer Rizvi's poor form continued as he managed only three runs. Debutant wicketkeeper-batter Akshay Dubey and Kartik Yadav departed soon after, leaving the side struggling at 222 for 7. Dubey's repeated failures have reportedly raised questions over the Praveen Kumar-led selection panel, as the youngster was allegedly favoured despite underperforming in two UPT20 League seasons. Dunbey, who scored nine runs in the first innings, scored just eight runs on Sunday before being caught by Vaibhav Kalta off Ritik Kumar. Tailender Shubham Mishra provided crucial support, scoring 17 off 42 balls in a 44-run partnership with Aaman for the eighth wicket. After Naman Tiwari's dismissal for five, UP still needed 16 runs with the last pair at the crease, but Aaman's calm finish ensured a memorable win. Earlier, UP conceded a 96-run first-innings deficit after scoring 204 in reply to Himachal's 320 but bounced back strongly to bowl out the hosts for 184 in their second innings. Left-arm spinner Kartik Yadav was the bowling star with a 10-wicket haul in the match, including five in the second innings. Uttar Pradesh will now face Karnataka in their first home match of the season in Meerut from October 26. Uttar Pradesh's batting mainstay this season, Rinku Singh is all set to miss the next three Ranji Trophy matches this season as the left-hand batter will be travelling with Team India to Australia for the five-match T20I Series, starting October 25. Rinklu, who rescued former champions Uttar Pradesh in the opening match by helping the side to take first innings and three vital points against Andhra at Kanpur on the basis of first innings lead with a sparkling unbeaten 165, will miss UP's encounters against Odisha at Kanpur (from Oct 25), against Baroda at Vadodara (from Nov 1) and against Nagaland at Kanpur (from Nov 8) as India would be playing their last match against Australia on November 8 at Brisbane. Uttar Pradesh scored a five-wicket win over Gujarat to end their campaign in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy with a fifth place finish in Elite Group A with 16 points. Vidarbha with 24 points and Mumbai with 20 points qualified for the knockout from the group. Chasing Gujarat's 118/5, Uttar Pradesh romped home with two balls to spare. Anjali Singh struck the highest 36 (39b, 5x4), whereas Sampada Dixit (22) and Varnika (21) made useful contributions. Earlier, Gujarat while batting first after winning the toss, despite having a good start, couldn't post a big total. Arshia Dhariwal (46) and Sanchita Changali (36) batted well, but once they departed, the wickets started falling like nine pins. Shilpi Yadav and Almas Bhardwaj shared four wickets between them, whereas Archana Devi bagged one wicket for Uttar Pradesh....
