LUCKNOW, June 17 -- The basic education department of the Uttar Pradesh government has initiated the process of collecting details regarding the TET/CTET status of currently employed teachers in compliance with the order passed by the Supreme Court, a release issued on Tuesday read. Awadhesh Kumar Tiwari, special secretary, basic education department, issued necessary directives to the director of education (basic) in this regard, the release read. The issued directives state that the Supreme Court, vide its order dated May 29, 2026, has extended the deadline for in-service teachers to acquire TET qualification from August 31, 2027, to August 31, 2028. The Court has also expressed the expectation that states should conduct the TET examination regularly-preferably twice a year-to ensure eligible teachers have adequate opportunities to obtain the required qualification. Additionally, the possibility of conducting a special TET examination for in-service teachers is being considered.
