Lucknow, Oct. 4 -- The Congress's organisational overhaul in Uttar Pradesh-appointing three-time MLA Aradhana Mishra 'Mona' as Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president and Saharanpur MP Imran Masood as working president-has elicited a carefully calibrated response from ally Samajwadi Party (SP). Senior SP leaders described the changes as the grand old party's internal matter that will have little bearing on future seat-sharing. A senior SP leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, struck a measured note on the issue. "It's their internal matter who so ever they want to appoint. The SP has nothing to say on it. Samajwadi Party leaders insist that numbers and candidates will be decided only at the highest level between party president Akhilesh Yadav and the Congress high command. Political observers have characterised the appointments as a classic 'naram-garam' strategy by the Congress: elevating a leader with known cordial ties to the SP while installing a vocal Muslim face who has, at times, publicly differed with the Akhilesh Yadav-led party on alliance dynamics. The move is also interpreted as an attempt to rebuild a social coalition of Brahmins, Muslims and Dalits, with additional appointments of Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad as senior vice-presidents signalling outreach to OBC and Dalit communities....
