LUCKNOW, Oct. 4 -- The Southwest monsoon completely withdrew from the remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, two days earlier than the normal date. After commencing withdrawal from parts of western UP on September 23-four days ahead of the normal date-and then experiencing a subsequent pause, the Southwest monsoon withdrew from UP, India Meteorological Department said. This year, the southwest monsoon arrived in Uttar Pradesh on June 30-a delay of 12 days compared to the normal date of June 18. It then advanced rapidly to cover the entire state by July 2, marking a delay of 5 days relative to the normal schedule. Thus, the total duration of the monsoon in Uttar Pradesh in 2026 was 95 days. During the monsoon season (June 1 to September 30), regional rainfall in UP remained normal. While the state recorded a total rainfall of 802.9 mm-which is 8% above the long-term average of 746.2 mm. It was the first time UP recorded monsoon rainfall of 800 mm and above in a decade. Eastern Uttar Pradesh recorded 817.0 mm (2% above the long-term average of 799.2 mm) and western Uttar Pradesh recorded 782.7 mm (16% above the long-term average of 672.0 mm). All these figures fall within the normal category. During this period, rainfall exceeding 1000 mm was recorded in a total of 14 districts, including Chitrakoot (1358.1 mm), Banda (1348.4 mm), Bijnor (1348.2 mm), Bahraich (1343.8 mm), Hamirpur (1307.7 mm), Sambhal (1294.9 mm), Kheri (1238.9 mm), Mahoba (1127.0 mm), Kanpur Nagar (1105.1 mm), Moradabad (1102.5 mm), Kannauj (1093.3 mm), Meerut (1054.8 mm), Muzaffarnagar (1043.6 mm), and Shahjahanpur (1012.5 mm).
