UP records 2% excess rainfall in Aug; more rains likely in Sept
Lucknow, Sept. 1 -- Uttar Pradesh received 2% above-normal rainfall in August, and weather officials predict more rains ahead in September, with conditions remaining favourable for intensified monsoon activity across the state.
According to data from the IMD, the state received 241.2 mm of rainfall in August 2025, compared to the long-period average (LPA) of 235.5 mm. This amounts to a 2% surplus for the month.
Cumulatively, since the beginning of the monsoon season on June 1, the state has recorded a marginal rainfall deficit of 2%. Several districts received significantly above-average rainfall in August.
Lucknow recorded 307.8 mm of rain-52% more than the monthly average of 202 mm.
Monsoon activity in Uttar Pradesh is expected to intensify in the first week of September, driven by the influence of a western disturbance spread as a cyclonic circulation from the middle to upper troposphere over northern Pakistan and adjoining Punjab.
