LUCKNOW, Jan. 25 -- Left-arm spinner Shubham Mishra came up with a two-wicket haul on Saturday for spirited Uttar Pradesh, but hosts Chhattisgarh batters hogged the limelight on Day Two of their Elite Group D encounter of the Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy in Bhilai. Mishra took a wicket each in second and third sessions, respectively on Day Two of the four-day encounter, but by that time Chhattisgarh batters scored 272/4 in reply to Uttar Pradesh's first innings total of 335. Vishal Tomar and Akshu Bajwa shared the other two wickets between them. In fact, it was a poor show by Uttar Pradesh on Saturday as first their last three batters could add just 12 runs in 8.4 overs to their overnight total to finish their first innings at 335 in 98.4 overs after resuming at the overnight score of 227/7. In the very second over of the day, keeper-batter Kaarthikya Singh (31, 70b, 2x4) was castled by Prashant Sai Painkra before Varun Singh Bhuie had the wicket of other overnight batter Akshu Bajwa (22, 55b, 2x4). There was a solid reply by Chhattisgarh openers then as Pratham Jachak and Shobhit Sharma stitched together 118 runs for the first wicket. Before being caught by Rituraj Sharma of Bajwa, Jachak scored 79-ball 80 with the help of seven boundaries and five sixes. Though next man Harsh Sahu (15) couldn't do much, Sharma added 37 runs for the second wicket before collecting 48 runs for the third wicket with Sahil Rajat Shariff. Sharma's knock of 63 runs came off 177 balls with the help of six hits to the fence, keeper-batter Rahul Pradhan made 57-ball 21 with the help of one boundary and a six. Shariff was batting at the crease after scoring an unbeaten 74, which came off 125 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and a six. Now, Uttar Pradesh would be aiming to take the remaining six wickets of Chhattisgarh as soon as possible, whereas hosts would be targeting 64 more runs to take first innings lead when the penultimate day's game begins on Sunday. UP's coach Gyanendra Pandey didn't sound very much satisfied with the bowlers performance on Saturday, but hoped that boys will come up with some fine performance on Sunday as the match is still wide open....
