UP BJP president dismisses Akhilesh's claims as 'baseless'
LUCKNOW, May 7 -- UP BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary on Wednesday rebuffed allegations of electoral malpractice levelled by Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, terming them "baseless and misleading." He attributed the SP's accusations to mounting political frustration following a series of electoral defeats.
He said India's democracy was strong and transparent, with elections conducted under independent constitutional bodies and that the SP was questioning democratic institutions to hide its failures. Chaudhary termed it unfortunate to raise doubts over the Election Commission, central forces and the judiciary, saying such remarks weakened democratic values.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had demanded that the Supreme Court take cognisance of the vote-counting process in West Bengal and make CCTV footage public. He alleged that what Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee is facing now is similar to what his party experienced during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
Rejecting allegations related to the 2022 Assembly elections, Chaudhary said any evidence should have been placed before appropriate forums instead of being repeated in public discourse.
Referring to West Bengal, he alleged that suppression of democratic processes was often seen in states ruled by opposition parties. Calling allegations of "vote loot" and manipulation "laughable", Chaudhary said the BJP won elections through public trust, guided by its "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" approach, and continues to focus on positive politics....
