Dehradun, June 10 -- Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) is set to deploy a range of technology-driven measures, including artificial intelligence-based monitoring and live CCTV surveillance, to strengthen the integrity of its recruitment examinations and restore public confidence in the system following last year's paper leak controversy, officials said. The measures will be implemented during the graduate-level recruitment examination scheduled to be held on June 14 for various government posts across the state, officials said. UKSSSC chairman GS Martolia said the commission's primary focus was to ensure strict monitoring and effective management of examination centres. "The most important aspect of conducting an examination is the management of examination centres. Based on our past experience, irregularities at some centres had created problems. To address this, we are introducing live CCTV monitoring and making use of AI-based information systems to ensure better oversight and quick intervention wherever required," Martolia said. He said the commission has also developed a mechanism to facilitate real-time communication with examination centres despite restrictions imposed by signal jammers. "We are often unable to communicate with centre staff in real time because of jammers installed at examination venues. Therefore, we have decided to use intercom phones so that any issue arising at a centre can be resolved immediately," he said. According to the commission, the revised standard operating procedures (SOPs) include sanitisation of examination centres two days before the test, a mock drill one day prior to the examination, and continuous monitoring throughout the process. Martolia said access to control rooms at examination centres would be tightly regulated. "Only five authorised persons will be allowed inside the control room of each centre. Entry of any unauthorised person will trigger an alert," he said. The enhanced security measures come in the backdrop of the controversy surrounding the graduate-level recruitment examination conducted on September 21 last year. Allegations of a paper leak had triggered widespread protests and raised concerns over the credibility of the recruitment process. Following the controversy, the UKSSSC board decided on September 30 to plug all possible loopholes and strengthen safeguards for future examinations. Subsequently, on October 11, the commission cancelled the graduate-level examination and announced that a re-examination would be conducted. The state government later ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter. The controversy erupted after the Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh alleged that the question paper had gone viral on social media about 30 minutes after the examination began. While the commission maintained that it was a case of individual cheating rather than a systemic paper leak, the incident sparked statewide protests and renewed scrutiny of the examination system....
