Lucknow, April 2 -- In a joint operation, the STF field unit Meerut and Moradabad police on Tuesday gunned down Ashu alias Monty, an alleged sharp-shooter of the Udham Singh gang, during an encounter under the Civil Lines police station limits in Moradabad. Police said Monty, son of Bharat Singh, a resident of Mirapur Kala in Hapur district, was wanted in a recent extortion and attempted murder case involving a Rs.5-crore ransom demand from a businessman registered at Civil Lines police station, Moradabad. A Rs.50,000 reward had been announced on his arrest. According to police, Monty had a long criminal record with around 36 cases registered against him across Hapur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr and Moradabad, including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, extortion, Arms Act and Gangster Act cases.htc...
