LUCKNOW, May 23 -- Following recent Supreme Court directions on stray dog management, the Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Department has released funds for setting up Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres in 10 districts, including Hardoi, Bulandshahr, Fatehpur, Kannauj and Ambedkar Nagar. Officials said around Rs.2.79 crore has been sanctioned for each district to establish infrastructure for sterilisation, anti-rabies vaccination, treatment and rehabilitation of stray dogs under the Animal Birth Control Rules. Dr Aslam Ansari, member of the ABC Project Recognition Committee, said the move comes amid rising concerns over stray dog attacks in urban and semi-urban areas. The Supreme Court had directed states and civic bodies to strengthen animal birth control programmes in a humane and scientific manner.
