PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 3 -- The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) on Friday demolished two shops built illegally by Khalid Zafar, a financier and gang member of slain gangster Atiq Ahmed, on PDA land in Kalindipuram. The demolition was carried out with JCB machines amid tight police security. Though some people opposed the action, the PDA continued the operation and demolished both shops. PDA zonal officer Suraj Patel said the authority owns around 1,500 square metres of land in Kalindipuram, which Khalid Zafar, Naushad and Hamid had allegedly encroached upon. Officials said a total of 16 shops were constructed on the land, but the dispute related to 14 of them is currently pending before the Allahabad high court. Khalid Zafar and his brother Maaz had previously operated an office named Himalaya Property from the premises. The PDA had sealed the office in 2017....
