PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 28 -- Two men accused of the murder of a state roadways bus driver were apprehended in separate encounters here, Prayagraj police said on Monday. Five other suspects were still absconding, they added. Ravinder Kumar, the driver, died after being attacked with bricks and stones by a group of men following a dispute near Mundera Toll Plaza on October 21. Ali and Kamran were arrested in police encounters that took place eight hours apart, DCP (City) Manish Kumar Shandilya confirmed. A police head constable was also injured in the incident. Ali was admitted to Colvin Hospital after receiving pellet injuries in both his legs. Ali's father Noorain, also one of the accused, escaped, however. CCTV footage of the October 21 incident shows Ali hitting Kumar on the head with a brick. Following the murder, an FIR was registered at the Dhoomanganj police station against Ali, his father Noorain, uncles Hasnain and Irfan, cousins Hussain, Kamran, and Kaifi, and four unidentified individuals. The Dhoomanganj police station in-charge and TP Nagar police outpost in-charge were suspended for negligence. Six close relatives of the accused were also sent to jail for giving shelter to the accused. Around 2.30 am on Monday, police received information that Ali and Noorain were hiding in a dilapidated room near Lal Bihara Colony under Puramufti police station area of Prayagraj. When a joint team of Dhoomanganj and Colonelganj police, along with the Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel arrived there, the accused allegedly opened fire. In retaliation, Ali was injured by bullets in both legs, while Noorain escaped, taking advantage of darkness. A pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from Ali. At 11 am, approximately eight hours after the first encounter, police received information from an informant that Kamran was heading to Subedarganj Railway Station. A police team immediately arrived and cordoned off the area, but Kamran allegedly opened fire on the police team. However, the police arrested him. A pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from his possession, too. According to police, Ali has three criminal cases in Dhoomanganj and Puramufti police stations while Kamran has three criminal cases registered against him in Dhoomanganj police station. Meanwhile, rewards worth Rs 25,000 on each of the five absconding accused were doubled, the DCP added....
