Two held after encounter for snatching tourist's gold chain near Taj Mahal
Agra, June 4 -- Two men accused of snatching a gold chain from a woman tourist from Andhra Pradesh near the Taj Mahal were arrested after an encounter with Agra police. The stolen chain was recovered and later returned to the tourist.
The incident took place on May 31 when the woman, part of a tourist group from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, was standing near the Shilpgram parking area on the eastern side of the Taj Mahal. Police said two motorcycle-borne men approached her, snatched her gold chain, and fled the spot.
A case was registered at the tourism police station under section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unidentified persons. Police formed special teams and examined CCTV footage from the area. Based on the investigation, the accused were identified as Ansar and Karan. They were arrested after an encounter during a vehicle-checking operation carried out on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, police said....
