Two drug traffickers arrested with heroin worth Rs.1.10cr
PRAYAGRAJ, April 23 -- In a major anti-narcotics operation, a joint team of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and Nawabganj Police arrested two drug traffickers on Tuesday night near the Mansoorabad bypass and recovered 550 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth around Rs.1.10 crore in the illegal market.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Aneesh Kumar alias Aashish Sonkar and Saurabh Sonkar, both residents of Manda, Prayagraj, police said.
According to police, the duo was operating in coordination with another associate, Sagar, also from Manda Khas, as part of an organised drug trafficking network. Authorities believe more members of the gang are still active and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them.
ANTF in-charge Satyendra Pradhan said that the operation was launched following multiple complaints regarding narcotics smuggling in the region.
Acting on the input, the joint team intercepted the suspects while they were traveling in a car and successfully apprehended them.
During the search, police recovered 550 grams of heroin, two mobile phones, a car used for transportation, and Rs.700 cash from their possession. During interrogation, the accused revealed that the consignment was meant to be delivered near a toll plaza in the Nawabganj area, where an unidentified person was supposed to collect the drugs after contacting them....
