LUCKNOW/Gorakhpur, Aug. 6 -- Two police constables posted at Kasya police station in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district have been suspended, arrested and are being sent to jail after a dhaba owner and a beauty parlour operator accused them of assault, abduction and criminal intimidation, police said on Wednesday. The action follows a complaint submitted to Kushinagar superintendent of police Keshav Kumar, alleging that constables Umashankar Yadav and Satyendra Yadav, along with another person, forcibly entered the dhaba owner's room late on Monday night. The accused allegedly demanded liquor and a woman. When the demand was refused, they allegedly assaulted the dhaba owner. The complainants further alleged that the accused then forcibly took a woman, who runs a beauty parlour and lives in the neighbourhood, to the Madapar area of Gorakhpur. The woman claimed she was kept there for nearly three hours before being dropped back at her residence around 5:30 am on Tuesday. She also alleged that she was subjected to misconduct and that both she and the dhaba owner were threatened with false criminal cases if they reported the incident. After the complaint reached the district police chief, an inquiry was initiated and immediate action was taken against the accused personnel. Confirming the development, Kushinagar SP said both constables had been suspended and a criminal case had been registered against them. "They have been arrested and are being sent to jail. Departmental proceedings have also been initiated to secure their dismissal from service," the SP said.
