Two accidents claim lives of six in Uttarakhand, four injured: Police
Dehradun/Haldwani, June 11 -- Six people were killed and four others injured in two separate road accidents in Uttarakhand on Wednesday, police said.
Four people were killed after a car allegedly suffered brake failure and plunged nearly 500 metres into a gorge on Jharipani Road near Mussoorie on Wednesday morning.
According to police, information about the accident at around 9.16 am.
A team from Mussoorie police station, along with personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire service and emergency medical services, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The victims were identified as Satyaprakash of Sonipat in Haryana, Manit (19), Savita (48), a resident of Nehru Nagar in Ghaziabad, and Sangeeta (46), a resident of Karol Bagh in Delhi.
Ankit Kandari, circle officer, Mussoorie, said, "According to preliminary information, the car's brakes may have failed on the steep downhill stretch."
"Shortly after getting back into the vehicle, the car began rolling downhill at speed, crossed a vacant plot and plunged into the gorge," he said.
All four occupants were found dead, and their bodies were recovered from the gorge.
In another incident, two people were killed and four others injured after a mini-truck carrying passengers and loaded with grass plunged into a gorge near Ason village in Kapkot area of Bageshwar district on Wednesday morning.
According to Pratap Singh Nagarkoti, Station House Officer (SHO), Kapkot Police Station, locals informed police that a mini-truck loaded with grass had fallen into a gorge on the Turturia-Bhairo link road near Ason village....
