LUCKNOW, Aug. 12 -- The King George's Medical University (KGMU) plans to construct two 10-storey buildings to expand its outpatient and diagnostic services. The buildings will come up on land belonging to the Government Inter College, opposite the Shatabdi block, which has been provided by the state government. One of the buildings will house the OPDs of most departments, while the other will accommodate comprehensive diagnostic facilities, including pathology and radiology services, as well as blood collection centres and other patient-care facilities. KGMU vice-chancellor, prof Soniya Nityanand said around 7,000 to 8,000 patients visit the hospital's OPDs every day. The overall footfall, including patients and their attendants, is around 30,000 people daily, putting considerable pressure on the existing infrastructure. "The increasing footfall is putting a strain on facilities on the main campus, with patients and attendants also facing issues such as parking shortages and overcrowding," Nityanand said. The proposed buildings are aimed at decentralising patient services and easing the pressure on the main campus.
