Twenty years of dodging the law end with a knock at dawn
LUCKNOW, July 9 -- A man who allegedly managed to stay one step ahead of the police for nearly two decades by constantly shifting hideouts and sneaking back home only at night was finally caught in a pre-dawn raid on Wednesday. "The accused, identified as Narendra (55), was arrested by the Wazirganj police from his residence in Hardoi's Kavathakiya locality at around 5 am while acting on a long-pending non-bailable warrant issued by a Lucknow court," said RK Tripathi, SHO.
According to the SHO, the warrant relates to a theft case registered at Wazirganj police station in 1991 under Sections 379 and 411 of the Indian Penal Code. Police said Narendra had remained absent from court proceedings for years, prompting the court to issue a non-bailable warrant.
Police had initiated proclamation and property attachment proceedings against Narendra, but he continued to evade arrest, the SHO said. Acting on local intelligence and surveillance, police arrested him from his Hardoi residence. During questioning, he allegedly admitted he had been changing locations and returning home only at night to avoid arrest. Police said his arrest ended a nearly 20-year search....
