LUCKNOW, July 27 -- Firefighters and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel rescued a truck driver trapped inside his overturned vehicle near Home Guard Chauraha in Lucknow's Alambagh area on Sunday morning. According to the fire department, its control room received information around 6:15 am that a truck had overturned near Jail Road crossing under the Alambagh police station limits. The driver was trapped inside the cabin. Fire tenders from Alambagh and a rescue van, along with a multi-disaster response vehicle (MDRV) from Hazratganj, were rushed to the spot. "On arrival, firefighters found that the driver's leg had become wedged between the steering wheel and the dashboard, preventing him from getting out. An NDRF team also reached the site and joined the rescue operation. After a joint effort by the fire department and NDRF, the driver was safely extricated and shifted to a hospital by ambulance for treatment," said Lucknow chief fire officer (CFO) Ankush Mittal. Officials said the driver, a resident of Banthra, sustained injuries but was rescued alive. In another incident, reported around 8:40 am, multiple fire tenders were sent to a residential building in Vikas Nagar after the fire department received information about a house fire. Firefighters found flames engulfing a storeroom on the first floor, while thick smoke was billowing through the windows. The blaze was brought under control after an intensive firefighting operation. As the tin-roofed storeroom was packed with household items, firefighters had to remove the burnt material piece by piece to completely extinguish the fire. According to the fire department, the fire destroyed a refrigerator, food grains and other household belongings stored in the room. No casualties or injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained....
