Triple murder accused injured in police encounter
PRAYAGRAJ, June 18 -- Himanshu Yadav, the prime accused in a triple murder case, was injured in a police encounter late Tuesday night. Police said they had taken him to recover the wooden log used in the killings, which he had hidden in bushes outside his village. At the spot, he allegedly snatched a sub-inspector's pistol, tried to flee, and opened fire, prompting retaliatory firing in which police shot him in the leg. He has been hospitalised, and the murder weapon was recovered, said DCP Yamunanagar Vivek Chandra Yadav. The incident follows the brutal killing of three elderly family members in Nibi Kukurkatwa village under Meja police station. Shyamlal Gupta (65), Indravati Devi (60) and Amravati Devi (55) were found dead outside their house on Tuesday morning with head injuries caused by a wooden log.
Police solved the case within 24 hours, arresting Himanshu along with his associates Nihal Gautam and Rajan Yadav, and village head Guddu. During interrogation, Himanshu confessed that the murders were driven by a love affair, as his relationship with the victim's niece was opposed by her family.
Investigations revealed that the couple had briefly eloped earlier this year before being brought back following a panchayat. Tensions escalated after the girl was sent away to her grandparents' home, allegedly prompting Himanshu to issue threats. Meanwhile, sub-inspector Ramvilas Yadav has been suspended for negligence after failing to act on a prior complaint filed through the IGRS system regarding the threats. Police said legal action is underway against all accused.
Authorities are also investigating whether the deceased's niece played a direct or indirect role in the murder, which stemmed from a romantic affair.
Meanwhile, the court has granted police remand for the five arrested accused. htc...
