Tributes pour in: Void that cannot be filled
New Delhi, April 13 -- Tributes poured in after the news of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle's demise came out on Sunday, with several political leaders expressing condolences and sorrow, describing the loss as a void that cannot be filled.
The 92-year-old singer who ruled Bollywood for over seven decades with her wide range of memorable songs passed away on Sunday due to multi-organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai.
Condoling the deme of the legendary singer, President Droupadi Murmu it has created a huge void in the world of music. "The passing of Asha Bhosle Ji has created a huge void in the world of music. Her legendary career as an iconic singer has defined an era of music in India," the President said.
Union home minister Amit Shah said that Asha Bhosle not only carved out a unique identity with her "sweet voice" and "unparalleled talent", but also enriched Indian music further through her melodies.
In a message posted on X in Hindi, Shah said, "Today is a sorrowful day for every Indian, and especially for every music lover like me, as our beloved Asha Bhosle ji is no longer among us."
Union minister Nitin Gadkari said her passing is a " huge loss to the music world and to her family." "Asha Tayi and I shared a very close relationship for the past several years. She sang several songs in multiple languages... Her songs are popular even to this day across the world. She is globally renowned," he said.
Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday expressed grief over the demise of legendary singer Asha Bhosle, calling her "one of the jewels of India" and lauding her immense contribution to art and culture.
He said the news was "extremely distressing", adding that Bhosle's musical legacy had promoted Indian art and culture globally.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said through her voice, Asha Bhosle's art will forever remain immortal among people.
"Through her voice, her art will forever remain immortal amongst us. In this hour of grief, my deepest condolences are with her bereaved loved ones and admirers," the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee described singer Asha Bhosle as a "great musical genius" and an inspiration for generations. "Profoundly saddened by the demise of the great musical genius Asha Bhosle. She has been an inspiring and mesmerising singer who reigned over our hearts for generations...," said Banerjee in a post on X.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday said singer Asha Bhosle's death marks the "end of an era" in Indian music and is an "irreparable loss" to the nation.
Expressing deep grief, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis called her one of the most versatile artists in Indian music and describing her death as a major loss for the country and the world of music.
"This is a moment of grief for music enthusiasts across India and the entire world. She was known as the most versatile artist. Her service to music, the service to music by the Mangeshkar family--we saw the demise of Lata didi, and today we see this. We are all sad... This is a great loss to all of us; we stand with the bereaved family," he said.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday expressed grief over the demise of legendary singer Asha Bhosle, saying her passing is an "irreplaceable loss" for the country and a major setback for the world of music. In a post on X, Kejriwal said he was deeply saddened by the news of her death and paid tribute to her legacy in Indian music.
