Transport dept cracks down on illegal taxi operations
LUCKNOW, June 17 -- A special enforcement drive by the transport department here at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport found 11 private vehicles allegedly being used for commercial passenger transport without permits.
During the checking campaign, officials inspected vehicles entering and leaving the airport. A total of 39 vehicles were challaned for various violations, while two were seized. One of the impounded vehicles was allegedly operating commercially despite being registered for private use.
Officials said the identified vehicles may be blacklisted and referred to the concerned authorities for conversion to commercial registration as per transport rules.
The two-day drive was launched amid concerns over the growing use of private vehicles as taxis at transport hubs. The operation was supervised by enforcement officials of the Lucknow transport department....
