Transperson, man attacked; seven booked
PRAYAGRAJ, May 1 -- A trans person and a man were injured after being allegedly assaulted by a group of attackers near a village under Kohandaur police station limits in Pratapgarh district on Thursday. Police registered a case against seven individuals based on a complaint alleging the attack was premeditated and launched with the intent to kill.
According to the police complaint, the assailants-estimated at around half a dozen-intercepted the two-wheeler driven by Shiv Kumar Verma, who was accompanying Anjali Sakhi. The attackers allegedly verbally abused Anjali Sakhi before launching a violent assault using iron rods, sticks and sharp-edged weapons.
Both Anjali Sakhi and Verma sustained injuries in the attack. Verma reportedly suffered a critical head injury and lost consciousness at the scene. The complaint further alleges a graphic attempt by one of the attackers to force an iron rod into the driver's mouth.
Police personnel from Dial 112 reached the location after receiving the information and shifted the injured to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kohandaur. Due to the seriousness of their condition, both were later referred to the district medical college hospital in Pratapgarh.
Anjali Sakhi, a resident of Ramapur village and a Mahamandaleshwar of Vaishnav Kinnar Akhada, filed the complaint. Based on her statement, police have registered a case against seven individuals, including three named accused-Sudhir Kumar, Sushil Verma and Lalji Verma, all residents of Chak Bhatauli village.
