LUCKNOW, Sept. 7 -- Traffic police checked 865 vehicles on Saturday, issued 140 challans and seized eight vehicles during a special drive against modi-fied silencers and excessive noise. Eight vehicles were seized during the drive, while 100 modified silencers removed from vehicles were deposited at the police lines, according to traffic police officials. The campaign, conducted on September 5, was aimed at curbing noise pollution and the use of silencers that produce excessively loud and harsh sounds. Traffic police teams conducted checks at multiple locations and targeted two-wheelers fitted with silencers that did not conform to prescribed standards. Officials said enforce- ment against such vehicles would continue in the coming days, warning motorists against using modified silencers. "Vehicles found using modified silencers in violation of prescribed standards will continue to face strict enforcement action," traffic police said in its advisory.
