LUCKNOW, June 28 -- As the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) intensifies its sealing drive following the Aliganj fire tragedy, the Uttar Pradesh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal has urged the administration to focus on enforcing fire and safety norms rather than relying solely on sealing commercial establishments, according to a press release issued on Saturday. Expressing grief over the deaths of 15 children in the fire, state president Sanjay Gupta said the tragedy underscores the need for strict enforcement of fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents. He said sealing commercial establishments alone is not a permanent solution and warned that the ongoing drive could jeopardise the livelihoods of thousands of traders and employees. Gupta said the traders' body would meet Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, and senior officials from the LDA, the Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Board, and the state government to seek a balanced solution. He also announced that the organisation would launch an awareness campaign to encourage traders to install fire safety systems and comply with prescribed safety norms, with the aim of enhancing public safety while ensuring businesses are not disrupted....
