TN govt signs MoUs worth over Rs.67k-cr during investors' meet
CHENNAI, Aug. 14 -- In the first investment conclave held after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) came to power in May, the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday secured 97 memorandum of understanding with companies having domestic and overseas presence, involving investment commitments to the tune of Rs.67,452 crore with a prospect of creating 120,000 jobs, the government said.
The 'Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2026' was held in the presence of chief minister C Joseph Vijay. The majority of investment commitments were made in the automobile sector with as many as 16 companies lining up investments of Rs.16,773 crore, generating 13,475 new jobs.
"The cumulative investment commitments in the first 100 days of our government will cross Rs.1 lakh crore, generating more than 120,000 job opportunities. This is on average a thousand crore of committed capital for every single day we have been in office," state industries minister S Keerthana said at the event.
A large number of investments were committed across 19 districts with Kancheepuram receiving 20 new projects worth Rs.31,004 crore, expected to create 18,070 new jobs, followed by Tirunelveli Rs.15,037 crore investments, with 2,670 job prospects.
The second highest investment garnered by the data centre sector with two companies committing Rs.11,417 crore investments creating 1,644 jobs.
16 companies engaged in textile industry signed agreements with the state government with overall investments of Rs.7,871 crore that would create the largest 24,876 jobs.
Other sectors in which Tamil Nadu received investments are critical engineering, life sciences, electronics and semiconductor, among others. 30 investment proposals were received from foreign headquartered projects with companies based out of 16 countries, Keerthana said....
