Timely safety compliance could have saved Aliganj fire victims: Akhilesh
LUCKNOW, June 25 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday blamed the Uttar Pradesh government for the Aliganj fire tragedy, alleging that poor enforcement of safety norms and delays in emergency response contributed to the deaths of 15 people.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, the former chief minister said the June 22 blaze in a commercial building could have been prevented through timely action by authorities.
"If the police, administration and government had ensured compliance with safety norms in time, most of the children and others who lost their lives could have been saved," he said.
Akhilesh also questioned the rescue operation, alleging that distress calls were not attended to promptly.He demanded compensation of at least Rs.1 crore for each affected family and government jobs for the dependents.HTC...
