Three women drown, two teen girls missing in Saryu
LUCKNOW, July 1 -- Three women drowned while two teenage girls remained missing after a group of five slipped into deep waters while bathing in the Saryu river in Ayodhya's Rounahi area on Tuesday evening, officials said.
The incident took place around 4 pm near Sanaha village under the Rounahi police station limits. According to officials, three girls and two women had gone to bathe in the river when they inadvertently ventured into a deep stretch and began drowning.
Hearing their cries for help, villagers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue effort. They managed to pull three women out of the river, but all of them had succumbed by the time they were brought ashore. Police and district administration officials reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. A search and rescue operation, assisted by divers, was launched to trace the two missing girls. The operation continued till late evening.
Sadar SDM Arvind Sonkar said the deceased were identified as Mariyam (18), daughter of Aslam and Sajrool Nisha (45), wife of Akram, and Shaheen (35), daughter of Mustakeem and a resident of Bhulai Ka Purwa. The two missing girls were identified as Nazia (16), daughter of Akram, and Rashida (15), daughter of Rashid, all residents of Sanaha village. Officials said the rescue teams would continue the search until both girls were traced....
