Meerut, Sept. 29 -- Three police constables in Meerut have been suspended for alleged indiscipline and misconduct, including reportedly using abusive language against public representatives and misbehaving with a watchman on duty, police officials said. The action followed complaints by local public representatives and the watchman, who reportedly approached senior police officials over the alleged behaviour of the three personnel. Taking cognisance of the complaints, SSP BBGTS Murthy ordered a preliminary inquiry into the matter. The three constables were found prima facie guilty of the alleged misconduct during the initial inquiry and were subsequently suspended with immediate effect, officials said. According to the complaints, the policemen allegedly used abusive and objectionable language against public representatives in the area. They were also accused of behaving in an inappropriate manner with a watchman who was performing his duty. The alleged treatment of the watchman led to resentment among locals and public representatives, following which the matter was brought to the attention of senior police officials. The police has reiterated that indiscipline and misconduct with members of the public or elected representatives will not be tolerated. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against the suspended constables. Further disciplinary and legal action, if warranted, will be decided on the basis of the findings of the departmental inquiry, officials said....
