Three dead in truck-auto collision in Jhansi
Jhansi, Jan. 25 -- Three people were killed after a speeding truck struck an autorickshaw overloaded with 16 passengers, in Jhansi's Gursarain in the early hours of Saturday, police said.
All 16 persons hailed from the same family. They were returning from an engagement ceremony in the nearby Kairokhar when the mishap occurred.
The impact was so severe that all the occupants fell on the road and the autorickshaw was left completely mangled.
In the accident, Janki, 18, and Sita Ramiya Gautam, 60, died on the spot and the injured were taken to the community health centre. Nine of them were referred to the Jhansi Medical College.
At the medical college, Narayan Das, 40, the auto driver also succumbed. One of the victims had to be transferred to a private hospital due to seriousness.
Meanwhile the truck driver fled from the spot along with the truck.
Circle officer Garotha Devendranath Mishra said, "We received the information about the accident through the control room after which we took immediate action. Bodies were sent for postmortem.
A case has been lodged against the unknown truck driver under related sections and we are trying to find him."...
