PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 13 -- Panic gripped Primary School No. 1 in Patti, Pratapgarh on Wednesday morning after three students allegedly fell unconscious shortly after consuming a chocolate-like substance brought to school by one of them. The children were first rushed to the (CHC in Patti and later referred to the Medical College for specialised treatment. According to school authorities, Prince, a Class 3 student and resident of Baheliyapur under Patti police station limits, had brought a substance resembling chocolate in his school bag. Prince, who lives with his maternal grandparents, reportedly shared the substance with his classmates Mayank and Aryan, both residents of Kumhiya Basti in Patti town, before consuming some himself. Soon after eating the substance, the health of all three children deteriorated, causing concern among teachers. Headmaster Shivpujan Pandey and Assistant Teacher Rajkumar Maurya immediately arranged for the students to be taken to Seth Pannalal Khandelwal Community Health Centre in Patti. Doctors at the CHC observed alarming symptoms during treatment. According to attending physician Dr Akhilesh Jaiswal, the children suffered severe reactions and were seen convulsing on their hospital beds. Given the seriousness of their condition, all three were referred to the Medical College for further treatment. On receiving information, assistant basic shiksha adhikari (ABSA) Gulabchand reached the school and gathered details about the episode from Headmaster Shivpujan Pandey. Dr Jaiswal said the symptoms suggested that the children may have consumed a strong intoxicating substance. However, the exact nature of the substance is yet to be confirmed.
