Thieves disable CCTV, decamp with Rs.15 lakh haul
Lucknow, Feb. 9 -- Thieves broke into a locked house in the Sarojini Nagar area, disabled the CCTV cameras and took away the DVR before fleeing with cash, jewellery and a motorcycle worth around Rs.15 lakh, police said on Sunday.
The burglary occurred on Friday night while the house owner, a sales manager with a cement company, was away with his family.
The incident came to light on Saturday evening when the family returned home and found the main door lock broken.
According to the complaint, the victim, a resident of Hindu Kheda in Amausi, had travelled to Jahanabad in Fatehpur district on February 6 along with his wife and son to bring his daughter-in-law home. When the family returned around 6 pm on February 7, they found the house ransacked, with household items scattered and the lights left on.
Upon checking the premises, they discovered that a Bullet motorcycle parked inside the house was missing. Jewellery worth around Rs.13 lakh, kept in an almirah, along with Rs.2.7 lakh in cash, had also been stolen.
Police said the burglars deliberately smashed the CCTV cameras installed at the house and took away the DVR, apparently to destroy evidence.
A case has been registered at Sarojini Nagar police station and an investigation is underway.
Preliminary investigations suggest the thieves spent considerable time inside the two-storey house and carried out the theft at leisure, police added....
