VARANASI, Feb. 23 -- Varanasi police on Sunday arrested the tenth accused in the codeine cough syrup smuggling case. A team led by Sarnath station house officer (SHO) inspector Pankaj Kumar Tripathi, along with constable Saurabh Tiwari, apprehended the accused from the Sarnath area and questioned him, police said. Sarnath assistant commissioner of police Vidus Saxena said that the accused has been identified as Satyendra Kumar Sahu, a resident of the Malviya Nagar area in the Mutthiganj locality of Prayagraj. He is the director of Raja Medical and Surgical Agency. He added that the accused was wanted in a case registered at Sarnath police station under sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2), 208 and 61(2) of the BNS, along with sections 8/21/29/26D of the NDPS Act. The case was lodged on December 18, 2025, on the complaint of Drug Inspector Zunab Ali. According to the officer, nine accused - Vishnu Kumar Pandey, Lokesh Agarwal, Prateek Gujarati, Suresh Chandra Gupta, Faizur Rehman, Mohammad Saif, Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, Vinod Agarwal and Akash Pathak - had earlier been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
