Teenage girl dies by suicide, family declines to file complaint
PRAYAGRAJ, March 27 -- A 17-year-old girl in a village under the Paschimsharira police station area in Kaushambi was found dead by suicide, hanging inside her home on Thursday morning. Police officials said the incident stemmed from a relationship that her family disapproved of.
The girl had been involved with a teenage boy from another community. Last year, the two ran away, leading her family to file a complaint, resulting in the boy's arrest and jailing. After legal proceedings, the girl was returned to her family, and the boy was released on bail approximately two and a half months ago.
Police reported that the girl remained firm in her wish to be with the boy, but her family was against the relationship. She was found by her family on Thursday morning after she failed to emerge from her room. Paschimsharira SHO Harish Tiwari confirmed that the family submitted a written request acknowledging the death as a suicide and allowing the post-mortem, but declined to file a formal complaint against anyone.
