Kanpur, March 19 -- A 58-year-old tea vendor in Etawah district died of a cardiac arrest late on Tuesday night after receiving an electricity bill of Rs 1.60 lakh on his mobile phone, triggering a protest by his family at the local power substation.
Shivpal Singh Kashyap, a resident of Mahavir Nagar in Bharathana town, sold tea from a handcart to support his family. The third bill, amounting to Rs 1.60 lakh, arrived as a text message at around 11 pm on March 17. Kashyap collapsed shortly after and was pronounced dead. Subdivision officer Dilip Kumar said the complaint regarding the inflated bills and allegations against department staff were under investigation. htc...
